Shane van Gisbergen has taken victory in his home country of New Zealand, claiming his third win of the season and once again interrupting the winning streak of Scott McLaughlin.

The race was full of twists and turns and it was Holden Commodore driver van Gisbergen who beat home his Red Bull Holden Racing Team teammate Jamie Whincup, giving the squad its first 1-2 finish of the season and first double podium since Race 1 in Adelaide.

Van Gisbergen led the race from Pole Position and after shaking off an early attack from Tickford Racing driver Cameron Waters, he then put his head down and pulled a margin. After the second stop the Kiwi came under pressure from teammate Whincup but the Australian was told to hold position.

Van Gisbergen crossed the line a 2.3s advantage over Whincup who is still under investigation for contact with Nick Percat on the second lap of the race.

Will Davison finished third on the road but was handed a 15s post-race penalty for speeding in the pit lane. This promoted his Tickford Racing teammate Cameron Waters into third who collided with another Tickford car of Chaz Mostert, Mostert suffered steering damage as a result and finished in last position.

David Reynolds held back championship leader and rival driver Scott McLaughlin for fourth, Lee Holdsworth finished the race in sixth ahead of Fabian Coulthard.

The highest Nissan Altima driver was Andre Heimgartner in eighth who beat the penalised Will Davison and Kiwi Richie Stanaway who recorded his best result of the season and made it all five New Zealanders in the top 10.

Supercars will be back on track at Pukekohe tomorrow for qualifying ahead of Race 24.
