SUPERCARS has approved further changes to the aerodynamics of the Holden Commodore in time for next week’s Auckland SuperSprint.

Aimed at increasing the ZB’s downforce, Holden teams will be allowed to run an extended front undertray and an additional gurney flap on the rear wing endplates along the trailing edge.

The removal of the high-level brake light detail from the tailgate has also been authorised.

Supercars has not released any details of the changes, which follow minor adjustments to the ZB Commodore’s aero balance before the Darwin round in June.

The update for Pukekohe is similar to the concessions granted to the Nissan Altima at The Bend last month.

It is the latest in a series of parity adjustments to counteract the Ford Mustang’s downforce and centre of gravity advantages.

The changes to the ZB were approved by the Supercars technical department following a submission from Triple Eight Racing Engineering, the Holden homologation team.

AUTO ACTION understands that the front undertray extension and rear wing endplate gurney flaps are designed to provide small increases in downforce, while adding more stability to airflow over the rear wing.

The removal of the brake light from the tailgate is characterised as a minor change that will further assist rear aero and wing stability.

The ZB’s undertray modification is an increase of its physical size following the pre-Darwin angle adjustment of its trailing edge.

The Commodore’s Vehicle Specification Document (VSD) has been amended to allow the changes to take effect immediately.

“Triple Eight Race Engineering made the application to the Supercars Technical Department for an aerodynamic adjustment following the most recent event at Tailem Bend,” Supercars head of motorsport Adrian Burgess said.

“Upon assessing the application and the information supplied, the Technical Department approved the submission as the delegated authority of the Supercars Commission.

“This adjustment will be in effect from the New Zealand round onwards.”

The Auckland SuperSprint is at Pukekohe Park Raceway in New Zealand from 13-15 September.
