Next year’s Supercars Enduro Cup is set to expand to four events, with confirmation that a new long distance race will be added at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia.

The Bend boss Sam Shahin has announced that the track’s Supercars round in 2020 will switch to an endurance race – tipped to be a 500 km opener of the Enduro Cup.

Shahin revealed the change just before the start of Saturday’s opening 120 km race of The Bend SuperSprint.

Next year’s visit to The Bend will be the state-of-the-art $110 million circuit’s third appearance on the schedule, likely switching to a mid-September slot, restoring the traditional pre-Bathurst two-driver race.

The event’s date and format will be confirmed when the full 2020 Supercars calendar is revealed next week.

This year’s Enduro Cup starts ‘cold’ at Bathurst in October, with the Sandown 500 moved to the last round in November.

It is understood Sandown will remain a long distance race in November next year, possibly over a different distance.

Sandown, as revealed by AUTO ACTION at the end of May, is set for an extended deal following major safety upgrades.
