RANDLE’S RETRIBUTION IN SUPER2

HEADING UP the support action at the Queensland Raceway’s Century Batteries Ipswich SuperSprint, Thomas Randle made up for his errors at Townsville by winning the first race of Dunlop Super 2 today.

Randle led from pillar to post in his Tickford Racing Ford Falcon FG/X and won by a clear 1.5s from series leader Bryce Fullwood in the best of the Matt White Motorsport Nissan Altimas.

Kurt Kostecki (Triple 8 Holden Commodore VF) was just behind the Nissan throughout for third while his brother Jake Kostecki (Team Arcoweld Racing VF) was lonely fourth, once he was able to pass Jack Perkins (Eggleston Motorsport VF).

The latter then fought off several challengers for his fifth with teammate Will Brown ultimately sixth after Zane Goddard (MWM Altima) was penalised 15s for a move on his teammate Tyler Everingham on the opening lap.

BOTH RACES 10 and 11 of round four were won in convincing style by Aaron Seton, driving Leo Tobin’s Ford Mustang.

Seton had the front row to himself for the first sprint race with series leader Steve Johnson pulling off with a failed fuel pump and subsequent electrical burnout. Therefore, much of the race had Ryal Harris chasing the race leader until Chev Camaro had a left front upright failure.

Adam Garwood (Camaro) was able to finish second despite an oil lead from a loose coupling, finishing ahead of the Holden Toranas of John Bowe, Ryan Hansford and Jim Pollicina. Harris limped home in sixth, in front of Rob Hackwood (Pontiac Trans Am), Adam Bressington (Camaro), Marcus Zukanovic (Ford Falcon XD) and Jason Gomersall (Torana).

In the next race, Harris made an excellent start to be second by the end of lap. Garwood spun at turn four as did Danny Buzadzic (Torana). Bowe moved through to third and held off Pollicina over the concluding laps.

Just behind was Hansford who was penalised 30s for contact on Garwood and that left Bressington fifth just in front of Johnson, storming through from the rear of the grid. Then followed Hackwood, Zukanovic, Cameron Mason (Mustang), Gomersall and Garwood.

ZAK BEST was at his finest in race one of the third round, nailing the start perfectly and going on to a clear-cut 4.9s victory.

Second, initially behind the Matt White Motorsport Ford Falcon FG driver was Josh Fife (Brad Jones Racing Holden Commodore VE) until he had an off-road skirmish at turn three on the fourth tour.

Broc Fenney (Paul Morris Motorsport FG) went to second ahead of Best’s teammate Hamish Ribarits until the latter tried a late brake move at turn three that didn’t come off and resulted in a trip through the gravel trap.

His other teammate Nic Carroll picked up third as a result and finished ahead of Jayden Ojeda (Anderson Motorsport FG), Fife and Ribarits.

In finishing seventh Brad Neill (Matt Stone Racing FG) took the privateer Kumho Cup honours. Next was Jon McCorkindale after he too had an excursion off the bitumen. Tenth went to Jason Gomersall (MSR FG) who survived an incident that seen his teammate Chris Smerdon in contact with Jim Pollicina (VE) and Madeline Stewart (VE).

TWO TIGHT wins has been effective for Kel Treseder (Camaro) as he opted to use his (double points) Joker option for round four. Both victories were narrow over series leader Justin Ruggier (Mustang), particularly race one where they crossed the line side-by-side, split by 0.0196s.

In the second there was a 0.34s margin while in each race, Josh Anderson (Camaro) was able to topple Joel Heinrich (Cruze). Next was Blake Sciberras (Mustang), scoring a pair of fifth places.

Series owner Tony Quinn (Mustang) headed Leigh Bowler (Camaro), Charlotte Poynting (Mustang), Kody Garland (Altima) and Craig Woods (Mustang) in the first encounter. In the second Quinn was eight behind Bowler and ahead of Reece Chapman (Camaro) and Garland.

Finishing sixth in race two was debutant Kyle Honour (Camaro) who came off the back of the grid after a starring performance in race one where he was in contention for the race win until firing off at turn three.

WEATHERING THE challenge, Ryal Harris (Mazda BT50) returned to the winners’ circle in race one of round five, beating Ben Walsh (Toyota Hilux) and Cameron Crick (Mitsubishi Triton).

Seemingly in control, Harris lost the lead on the penultimate lap to Walsh at turn three, but quickly retrieved it before lap’s end, and then held on over the final lap for the victory. The three were clear of the dice for fourth where Tom Alexander (Isuzu D-MAX) held off Craig Woods (Hilux).

Behind them was another two-ute war with Toby Price (Triton) managing to hold on ahead of Ben Falk (BT50) while Craig Thompson (Hilux) won a three-way fight for eighth over Jeff Watters (Hilux) and Chris Formosa (Ford Ranger). Making a guest appearance Steve Richards (Holden Colorado) pulled out on the formation lap.
