Cameron Waters will start this afternoon’s Supercars race from first on the grid after he claimed pole position edging out Scott McLaughlin.

Waters’ Tickford teammate Chaz Mostert did not fare so well, missing out on the Top 10 Shootout after he qualified 16th. Red Bull Holden Racing Team driver Jamie Whincup also missed out on the top 10 and will start from 12th on the grid.

Waters pipped the DJR Team Penske driver by just 0.015s to take his first Townsville pole position. It is an all Holden second row, Penrite Racing driver David Reynolds will start third, with South Australian Todd Hazelwood the best Triple Eight built car in fourth.

Fabian Coulthard had a better day in qualifying today and will start from fifth alongside Red Bull Holden Racing Team driver Shane van Gisbergen.

The second Penrite Racing car of Anton de Pasquale will start seventh ahead of Lee Holdsworth, while Tim Slade and James Courtney rounded out the Ten 10 Shootout runners.

The best Nissan driver was Andre Heimgartner who narrowly missed out on the top 10 after qualifying in 11th.

The final race of the Townsville 400 begins at 3.10pm EST.
