Rick Kelly’s Castrol backed Nissan will take to the track today with a special livery to celebrate the brands 100th year in Australia.

The team arrived at the Watpac Townsville 400 in a cloud of tyre smoke to mark the milestone, with the Supercars round coinciding with the same week 100 years ago that Castrol launched in Australia and New Zealand.

Castrol is the primary partner on Rick Kelly’s Nissan Altima and has been supporting him for the majority of his 18-year journey in the Supercars Championship and Rick was proud to bring the car to Townsville this week sporting the number ‘100’ for the event.

“Castrol has been a big supporter of mine, they’ve been there with me for the majority of my career in Supercars and it’s great to be able to help them to celebrate their 100 year milestone with this fantastic looking race car.” said Kelly.

“Castrol was there supporting us when we had the two wins at Bathurst many years ago now and then when we started Kelly Racing, that unwavering support continued so I’m really grateful for their commitment to us and motorsport over the years.”

“We love coming to Townsville, it’s such a great part of Australia and the perfect place to celebrate the 100 years of Castrol. Madzy did a great job of the donuts and put on a great show.”

“I’m looking forward to getting it on track and having a good weekend up here in Townsville.”

The Watpac Townsville 400 Supercars event coincides with the same week 100 years ago that Castrol launched in Australia and New Zealand. As North Queensland is an important region for the brand, it was only fitting to bring the celebrations on the top of the town.

Stuntmen, Matt Mingay and his son Madzy Mingay were on hand to launch the livery in style. Matty Mingay, who is a hometown hero oversaw Madzy’s stunt. Madzy, who recently turned 12 took to his Castrol EDGE-oiled ‘bone shaker drift car’ and burnt up some rubber, covering the crowd in a blanket of green tyre smoke. Madzy’s car for the exhibition was equipped with special tyres which produce green smoke as a nod to Castrol’s iconic green branding.

The highlight of the unique livery is the variety of historic and classic Castrol logos blended into the main background as recognition of the brand’s representation in motorsport over the last 100 years.

The usual Castrol logo along the side of Kelly’s car has been replaced with the celebratory 100 Year Castrol logo, featuring a revamped slogan of ‘Oil’s still ain’t Oils’.

Castrol’s partnership with motorsport has been a cornerstone for the brand and it has seen great success alongside countless motorsport legends including Colin Bond, Peter Brock, Larry Perkins, Russell Ingall, Greg Murphy and the Kelly Racing squad to name a few.

The Townsville 400 commences today with Supercars on track from 10:55am (AEST).
