McLAUGHLIN ON TRACK FOR TRIPLE CROWN

By Heath McAlpine

Championship leader Scott McLaughlin is on track to be the first driver to win the Darwin Triple Crown after taking pole position for Race 16 at Hidden Valley Raceway.

McLaughlin set a time of 1m 05.8259 to take out the Top 10 Shootout ahead of teammate Fabian Coulthard. Despite being second in the shootout, Coulthard’s time held up as the cloud cover dissipated and the track conditions became warmer.

David Reynolds will start third alongside Cam Waters on the second row, while Lee Holdsworth, Anton De Pasquale, Will Davison, Chaz Mostert, Rick Kelly and Mark Winterbottom round out the 10. The Team18 Commodore of Winterbottom had dramas in the shootout when he locked up at Turn 1 due to a tyre issue.

Missing in the top 10 were the Red Bull Holden Racing Team Commodores of Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen, the latter will start 16th. Brad Jones Racing have work to do as both Nick Percat and Macauley Jones went off the circuit at Turn 10, requiring the team to make significant repairs.
