Scott McLaughlin has taken his tenth pole position of the season at the Darwin Triple Crown, and in doing so has given Team Penske its 600th pole position.

The kiwi took pole by just 0.14s after making a mistake at Turn 5 on his second flying lap. The #17 Mustang will start this afternoon’s race alongside Penrite Racing driver David Reynolds, who jumped up to second in the dying moments of the session.

Will Davison qualified third after making it through the first segment of qualifying, meaning he only had one run in the final session. Anton de Pasquale will start alongside the Tickford Milwaukee Racing Mustang in fourth.

Tickford drivers Cameron Waters, Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth qualified from fifth to seventh position and means that all four Tickford cars will start in the top seven.

It was a very difficult session for the Red Bull Holden Racing Team pair of Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen. Whincup in the #88 Commodore qualified down in eighth, while Gisbergen qualified 12th after missing the third qualifying session.

Andre Heimgartner was the highest placed Nissan Altima driver in ninth, the New Zealander sat fifth after the first runs but got demoted to ninth by the end of the session.

McLaughlin’s Penske teammate Fabian Coulthard had a challenging session, he rounded out the top 10.

This afternoon’s Supercars race begins at 4:45pm AEST.
