Oscar Piastri is set for further action in the Formula Renault Eurocup as the series heads to Monaco for rounds five and six of the 2019 season this weekend (May 23-26), racing alongside the Formula 1 World Championship.

Coming off the back of a dominant weekend at Silverstone where he took two wins and two pole positions, the Australian is looking to extend his championship lead with his R-ace GP team.

“We’re off to Monaco for the third weekend of the Formula Renault Eurocup season.” said Piastri.

“I didn’t have the best weekend there last year so I’m looking to make amends for that. We’ve had a good visit to Silverstone with a double win, so we have plenty of pace and momentum heading into Monte Carlo.”

“It’s a unique track and a fan and driver favourite. We race with Formula 1 too, so track time is limited and there is only one practice session before qualifying. Turn one is difficult to get right – the wall comes at you pretty quickly. The middle sector is tight and twisty, but my favourite part of the circuit is sector three – it’s the fastest part of the track and when you get it right it is very rewarding.”

The 18-year old Melbourne native will have to be at his best as there will be just one practice session on Thursday for competitors to get their cars set up before Monaco’s unique split-qualifying session on Friday morning. Here the drivers in the faster group will take the even-numbered grid slots on Saturday, switching to the odd side on Sunday.

Piastri will be among a number of Australian’s competing in Monaco this weekend, with Porsche Supercup also of the support card for Formula 1.
