Tickford Racing has announced that Richie Stanaway will leave the team after a difficult debut season in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

The announcement confirms what was reported in AUTO ACTION 1747, where it had been suggested to us that the Kiwi rookie was likely to leave the Campbellfield based squad just one year into his two year deal with the team.

As reported at the time, Tickford management had become frustrated by the drivers introverted and difficult personality. While Stanaway had expressed his own frustrations with the team in a outburst over the radio an public drifting display up in Townsville.

The announcement released by the team confirmed the decision is mutual with both the team and driver believing it to be best if they went their separate ways.

Tickford is yet to announce who will replace Stanaway or the Team 18 bound Mark Winterbottom, however, they only have one seat available for the 2019 season after confirming they’ll run one of their cars as a customer program for 23Red Racing.
