Simona De Silvestroʼs Nissan Altima will wear a unique classic look for this weekendʼs retro round at the Sandown 500.

Taking inspiration from race cars of the 1960ʼs, the #78 Team Harvey Norman entry will complete the first endurance race of the year in a distinctive new design.

“The car looks really cool,” said De Silvestro.

“Sandown is a lot of fun with the retro theme. Itʼs a very serious weekend with a lot of points on offer, but itʼs also something thatʼs a bit different. A racing stripe is always worth a few tenths, for sure.”

Prior to this weekendʼs action, De Silvestro caught up with Harvey Norman founder and CEO, Gerry Harvey, to help get some retro tips.

“It’s always great to chat with Gerry. Harvey Norman have been great partners to work with, plus Iʼve seen some old TV commercials, very retro! Harvey Norman is a brand that has been around for over 35 years, so theyʼve seen a lot of things in that time.”

2018 marks the fourth year the home furniture giant has supported De Silvestroʼs endurance campaign – which began with the 2015-2016 Bathurst wildcard entries.

“The Sandown retro round is something special. It reminds us how far we have come in terms of the car and the technology, but the passion and love of motorsport is unchanged.” said Gerry Harvey.

De Silvestro will partner up with Alex Rullo for the endurance races in 2018. The West Australian has been impressively campaigning a Nissan Motorsport built Altima in the Super2 Championship this year.

“Alex has shown really good pace in Super2. Heʼs won a race and he really knows his way around the car. This is my second enduro campaign, so I know what to expect and am excited about the challenge ahead.”

The new-look No. 78 team Harvey Norman entry will hit the track on Friday for three practice sessions ahead of this weekendʼs Sandown 500.
