Kumho Tyres V8 Touring Cars

MATT WHITE Motorsport teammates Zak Best and Tyler Everingham finished first and second for round four after each had a race win in their ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon FGs at QR today. They finished the round equal on points with Best’s later result giving him the overall win.

Everingham had a lights-to-flag victory in race two, the first of the day, shadowed to the line by Best and Jon McCorkindale in an ex-Triple 8 FG. Fourth went to Harry Hayek (Brad Jones Racing Commodore VE) ahead of the Fords piloted by Michael Anderson (ex-FPR FG), and the Image Racing’s Harley Haber and Maxim Erickson in their ex-Stone Brothers Racing FGs.

The battle for Kumho Cup honours went down to the wire where Jim Pollicina (ex-Tasman VE) staved off Brendon Strong (ex-Kelly Racing VE) for a narrow victory and eighth overall.

Poor starts from both MWM Falcons in the final race saw McCorkindale the leader after the first corners. Best soon worked his way past McCorkindale, who then spent the next two laps fending off Everingham. Best built up an advantage which was too much for Everingham to bridge once he passed McCorkindale.

Fourth went to Haber ahead of Anderson while Hayek was next after lighting up the tyres off the start and leaking several spots. Behind Erickson, Pollicina had a healthy margin over Strong and Brad Neill (ex-SBR FG).

THE POCKET ROCKETS featured in two thrillers where Blake Sciberras (Mustang) and Joel Heinrich (Altimas) had wins while Justin Ruggier took the overall round winner.

The morning race (three) was a reverse top ten from race two where Sciberras skipped away at the start and took a 4.8-second victory. By contrast, second was anyones with four cars fighting it out.

Ultimately Paul Morris (Altima) crossed the line as runner-up ahead of Ruggier, Heinrich and Kyle Ensbey (Mustang). There was a gap to Josh Anderson, Tyler Owen, Adam Uebergang and Reece Chapman, all driving Camaro-bodied racers.

Morris displaced Ruggier after the first lap to lead the final race, and he held the top position until the end of a safety car period at mid-distance.

Heinrich led for a lap before Morris regathered and then Kel Treseder (Camaro) a non-starter in race three due to a broken throttle cable, led with a lap to go.

On the last lap, Heinrich went ahead for the win from Ruggier, Treseder and Morris. Despite a moment at turn 5 with two laps to go, Sciberras managed to finish fifth ahead of Owen, Chapman, Anderson, Leigh Bowler (Camaro) and Ensbey.

THE THIRD race of the fourth round was overshadowed by a big first-lap rollover for Michael Sieders.

His Mitsubishi Triton rolled four times at Turn 2 after leaders Tom Alexander (Holden Colorado) and Ryal Harris (Mazda BT-50) had a brief coming together.

Alexander got out of shape and contacted Harris. The Colorado then came back onto the racing line, tagging Sieders and sending him somersaulting across the sand trap to rest against the concrete wall.

After a lengthy Safety Car, it was a one-lap dash to the flag. Christopher Formosa (Ford Ranger) took the chequered flag first but then copped a time penalty for jumping the leaders at the restart and before the control line.

Craig Woods (Toyota Hilux) who was leading the race, was awarded top spot, taking his maiden category race victory. Second went to Cameron Crick (Triton) ahead of Tomas Gasperak (Colorado), Aaron Cameron (Mazda) and Ben Walsh (Hilux). With damage, Alexander and Harris crossed sixth and seventh.

Matthew MacKelden’s Hilux was sidelined after an opening lap incident in race two where he had contact with Steve Wilson’s Isuzu D-Max and lost a wheel.

That half-points reverse-grid race was won by Alexander ahead of Harris, Sieders, Walsh, Gasperak, Formosa, Wilson and Crick. Both Woods (head gasket) and Cameron (turbo hose) finished with dramas. Harris was the round winner ahead of Woods and Harris.

IT WAS three from three race wins for AGI Sport’s Jayden Ojeda after taking today’s two outings, and he won round three at Queensland Raceway.

The day started with the race one winner starting out of position five and at the end of the opening lap was second behind teammate Ryan Suhle. Three laps later Ojeda was in front and pulling away leaving Suhle to hold off the Team BRM pair of Aaron Love and Cameron Shield.

Lachlan Hughes and Zayd Tones, also members of the BRM troupe, went toe-to-toe all the way to the flag for fourth and fifth.

At the end of the day, Ojeda led from pole to the finish, with a five-second margin to Shields who covered off Love from the start. Suhle was next, while Walls relegated Hughes to sixth at turn 4 on the final lap.
