THIS WEEKEND Queensland Raceway hosts round two of the 2018 Australian Formula Ford Series with 20 drivers set to compete – a split between 15 Duratec-powered cars and five Kent-powered cars in the first of the three-round Formula Ford 1600 Series.

Hunter McElrea dominated round one at Winton Motor Raceway with a clean sweep. The Gold Coast-based driver knows Queensland Raceway very well.

Fellow Queenslanders Cameron Shields and Nathan Herne will challenge McElrea’s series lead. Herne showed very strong pace while Shields comes from a round win in Australian Formula 4. Victorians Hamish Ribarits and Liam McLellan are other possible round contenders, with both finishing just behind McElrea.

In the 1600 class, Tim Hamilton will try and repeat his 2017 round win at QR. With only three rounds available to win the title, every single point counts. Thanks to Yokohama Tyres, the winner will receive a brand new set of Yokohama AO48 tyres.

Through Shell, there will also be a $250 voucher for pole position in both classes, and a $200 voucher for the hard charger of the weekend from CHI – Cylinder Head Innovations.

The overall winner will receive an entry ticket to participate in the Mazda Road To Indy Shootout and have a chance to win a US$200,000 scholarship to participate in the 2019 USF2000 Series.
