Former Erebus Motorsport Supercars driver Dale Wood will be behind the wheel of one of the 26 new-generation Porsche 991 GT3 Cup Cars in Adelaide after confirming he will join Melbourne-based Sonic Racing Services for the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.

Team Boss Graham Ritter feels he has the right mixture to take out this year’s crown.

“We’ve got a really exciting line-up in 2018,” Team Boss Graham Ritter explained. “It’s a great blend of youth, experience, aggression and consistency. I think we’re going to have a fantastic year.”

Wood leads a five-car entry from the experienced squad that finished runner up with Nissan Supercars driver Andre Heimgartner in 2017. It will be Wood’s debut in the class after winning the 2013 Super2 title and a four-year stint as a full time Supercars driver.

Wood is itching to get behind the wheel of the new car and is glad to be able to compete with Sonic.

“I really like the way that Carrera Cup do so many things,” says Wood. “I think I’ve reached a point in my life where I just want to enjoy my racing and I see this direction as the best way to do that. I can’t wait to get after it in these cars. I’ve never heard anyone get out of a Cup car and say ‘well that was disappointing.’ The more I think about it the more I’m looking forward to it.”

“I think anyone who knows Michael and Maria Ritter knows that they do it right, and they do it 120 per cent. And Mick never beats around the bush, you always know where you stand.”

Joining Wood at Sonic will be the vastly experienced Michael Almond, Australian GT round winner Peter Major, reigning GT3 Cup Challenge victor Jordan Love and gentlemen racer Graham Williams.
