ADAM GARWOOD JOINS CARRERA CUP

TOURING CAR Masters frontrunner Adam Garwood will trade in his Holden Torana SL/R 5000 for the latest spec-Porsche 991 GT3 Cup Car in what has been a very quick deal.

“Friday week ago [January 26] we got a phone call saying there was one available and if you want it you can have it,” explained the Tasmanian youngster. “It’s been a real rush to get it all together.”

The team launched its recently acquired new-generation 991 Cup Car at Performance Automobiles/ Porsche Centre Hobart last night amongst a number of Porsche enthusiasts, who were able to view the car. Garwood will be one of the 26 Carrera Cup cars competing at the Adelaide 500. He joins the likes of Cameron Hill and established young drivers Jaxon Evans and Dylan O’Keeffe on the grid.

The aim for Garwood is to gain experience and learn, before a full attack on the title in the next few of years.

“I think if we go round-by-round to see try and see where we’re at, and try and get ourselves ready for the next couple of years. We’ll see if we can try and get on the podium and later on the series.”

The team and car will be based in Tasmania, but help has come from Andy McElrea with plans to maybe link up with his team over a race weekend in the future.

We are going to try and run the car ourselves like we have been [in Touring Car Masters] the last few years, but so far Andy McElrea [McElrea Racing] has been awesome help and aided in getting the car for me. He was head up, bum down in trying to get a car for us as much as we were and we will try and do something with him.”

Garwood is looking forward to steering the new generation Carrera Cup car and is hoping for a strong debut season.

“We’ll give it the best shot we can and see how it goes.”
