JACK PERKINS JOINS LDM FOR PUKEHOHE
Jack Perkins has received a late call-up to race for LD Motorsport in New Zealand this weekend.
The Walkinshaw Racing enduro driver will replace Alex Rullo in the team, after he split with the team last week. AA understands that the second Commodore will be driven, as is was in the endurance races, by Aaren Russell.
Perkins, 31, will become the team’s eighth driver of what has been a difficult season. Rullo raced on a race-to-race basis until his 17th birthday in the middle of the season, but AA sources report that there was a difference of views between the Perth teen and team management while they were racing in the Gold Coast 600 last month.
The team had been linked with Richie Stanaway, and we understand that so advanced were discussions between the team and Prodrive Racing Australia driver that a change in engineer was also mooted. However, the deal was not completed, and the local Auckland driver looks set to be a spectator this weekend.
Russell is set to continue with the team for the final round of the Supercars Championship in Newcastle at the end of the month but there is no word on whether Perkins will continue in the team’s other entry.
