THE UPCOMING Historic Sandown meeting will celebrate 26 Years of Thunder and the 40th anniversary since Peter Brock’s debut win in the Holden Torana A9X.

One of the biggest historic events of the year will host a variety of tin tops including Group A and C cars that showcase the history of Australian Touring Car Racing, while the historic Group N races will feature a strong field of Camaros, Monaros, GT-HOs and Chargers on a horsepower favoured circuit.

Open-wheel fans will not miss out with a strong field of historic Formula 5000 cars and as always a big field of historic Formula Fords and various Formula cars ranging from the early 50’s to the mid 80’s.

The main celebration at the evnt will be for the A9X, which debuted 40 years ago at the Hang Ten 400 in the hands of a variety of Holden teams including Brock’s Bill Patterson team and Allan Grice’s Craven Mild crew, who finished a lap behind Brock in second. It completed a hat-trick of wins for Brock and was in the middle of a golden era for the star Holden driver at Sandown.

A display of A9X Toranas will take centre stage at the event, which occurs on November 10-12. Visit vhrr.com for more information.
