IT WAS a strong showing from Chris Atkinson and his Swedish Subaru teammate Patrik Sandell at the last double-header round of the Global Rallycross Series held in Atlantic City on August 12-14.

Atkinson and Sandell had their Subaru’s in contention, both making the final, though Atkinson wasn’t able to make the most of his front row start as broken suspension due to a collision forced the Australian to pull out of the race. Sandell showed the Subaru’s potential by mixing it with Scott Speed, who pipped the Swede for the win.

In the second round held the next day, Atkinson won his heat by spectacularly passing Austin Dyne round the outside, with Sandell was not far behind in third. Third in the Semi-Final for Atkinson and a close second for Sandell had the Subaru team confident of repeating its form from the previous day.

Sandell was the one to cop race ending contact this time. A collision on the final lap resulted in Sandell suffering race ending damage not far from the finish line, though Atkinson took a fine fourth.

The next round of Global Rallycross will take place at Evergreen Speedway in Seattle on September 9-10, where Atkinson currently sits seventh in the championship.
