Aaren Russell will step into the Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport seat, vacated by Cameron McConville this weekend in Townsville the team has confirmed.

The Newcastle based driver who drove the No. 3 LDM Commodore at the Supercars Test Day at Sydney Motorsport Park at the start of the year is en route to Townsville after putting together a last minute deal with personal sponsor Plus Fitness to race at the event.

Plus Fitness owner John Fuller, who had been in ongoing negotiations with LDM to have Russell drive with the team at Bathurst and Newcastle later in the year, is believed to put together the deal late last night.

Russell had been in contention to drive with LDM at the start of the year, but those negotiations broke down just prior to the Clipsal 500, leaving the team to do a last minute deal with Taz Douglas, commencing the ongoing driver rotation in the No. 3 that has also seen Matt Brabham and Cameron McConville behind the wheel.

The Novocastrian started the 2016 season behind the wheel of one of the Erebus Commodores before issues between the team and sponsor left him walking away from that drive. He then moved over to LDM for the Pirtek Endurance Cup, having last raced in Supercars on the Gold Coast.
