TOYOTA RACING SERIES ANNOUNCE 2018 SCHEDULE
Toyota Racing Series 2016
New Zealand’s Toyota Racing Series has confirmed its plans for the 2018 season.
The summer series that attracts the best up and coming international drivers will again feature a compact five race schedule in five weeks.
As per 2017, the series will kick off Mike Pero Motorsport Park in Christchurch on the 12th of January before heading to Teretonga Park, Hampton Downs, Taupo Motorsport Park and Manfeild.
Toyota New Zealand Motorsport Manager Steve Boyce advised that the series is continuing to be in high demand from young drivers from around the world, with all 20 drives expected to be snapped up by international drivers.
“Once again, the world’s leading young race drivers are developing their plans for staying race-fit at the end of the northern hemisphere race season, and they are looking south to New Zealand,” said Boyce.
The news of the 2018 calendar comes as the series gets ready for several big changes.
Toyota had enlisted the assistance of Supercars Championship Commission chairman Steve Horne, who will act as an consultant to Toyota Racing New Zealand as Toyota builds a new management team for their racing program in New Zealand.
In addition, Toyota will move their motorsport base of operations from Mount Wellington to a new purpose built facility at the Hampton Downs circuit.
“As we bed-in the new TRNZ facility, we have taken the opportunity to evolve how we deliver the championship and review key roles within the organisation,” said Boyce.
“It’s a very exciting time for Toyota Racing New Zealand, and having the benefit of Steve’s international motor racing wisdom is incredibly valuable.”
