Young Australian driver Calan Williams will head to Europe next month to assess his options for the next stage of his career.

The 16 year old currently racing in the Australian Formula 3 Premier Series, will fly to the UK after the next round at Sydney Motorsport Park to meet with Fortec Motorsport and legendary engineer Mick Kouros to discuss a possible EuroFormula Open Championship campaign in 2018.

“Our plan, at the moment, is to race in EuroFormula Open next season,” said Williams.

“We’ve looked through a few of the key contenders, and Fortec really stood out for us, particularly with Mick Kouros involved.

“Through our research we were really, really impressed with Fortec’s driver development programme as well, it seems like a real focus for the team. So between that and their performance, it looks very promising.

“I’m heading over to meet up with Mick and have a look at how they operate. I’m not going to drive a car at this stage, because we want to focus on what we’re doing here in Australia, but it’s a great opportunity to see how it all works, meet the guys at the team, and have a good think about the 2018 season.”

The decision to head to Europe comes off the back of an impressive start to Williams’s Formula 3 season that sees him currently sitting second in the series after winning both races at Mallala last weekend.
