Kimi Raikkonen has qualified for the Monaco Grand Prix in pole position.

A sensation lap 1:12.178 for Raikkonen put him in an unbeatable position in the final segment of Formula 1 qualifying in Monte Carlo with a couple of minutes left in the session.

In a last ditch effort from fellow Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, was only good enough for second place. While Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas settled into third.

Aussie Daniel Ricciardo qualified fifth for the Red Bull Racing with a time of 1:12.998, a fraction of a second behind teammate Max Verstappen who was fastest at the end of Q1.

Lewis Hamilton failed to make Q3 after being caught out on a hot lap by the crash of Stoffel Vandoorne at the swimming pool chicane which brought a premature end to Q2. 

However Vandoorne’s McLaren teammate Jenson Button did make it through to Q3 in his one off return to Formula 1. Qualifying ninth at the end of the session.
