TRAVIS ROBINSON and co-driver Trent Anthony dominated the St George 399, the opening round of the Australian Off Road Championship (AORC) over the weekend.

The pre-race favourites lead all three sections of the two day event in their BFGoodrich backed Nissan powered Pro Buggy.

Saturday’s opening prologue stage made headlines with two massive rollovers that ultimately reduced the following section one by two laps. Chris Mingay and Jay Graham crashed their truck in spectacular fashion (see video), which saw Graham taken to St George Hospital for precautionary checks. While Jeff McNivin and Andrew Reid also rolled their Can-Am.

Out in front, Robinson and Anthony amounted a two minute lead, during the reduced section one, over fellow Pro Buggy competitors Bryce Chapman and Mitch Warren.

Robinson’s domination continued Sunday, where he extended his lead over a struggling Chapman to six minutes.

After the final section, Robinson thanked his team “My boys did an awesome job; Murray, Brett, Luke and Trent my navigator did an awesome job, we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend,”

“Our BFGoodrich Tires performed perfectly and a big thanks to everyone in the town of St George, they were great.”

Chapman, who struck with mechanical issues, was lucky to hang on to second place.

“It’s great to come back with a finish and a second place but it wasn’t easy,” said Chapman.

“That first heat today we ended up running on six cylinders; I think it is probably running on five or four now. That last lap was shocking, I don’t think I could get over 50 kilometres an hour.

“Our intercoms weren’t working, nothing was working, we didn’t know what was going on with our temperatures, oil pressures—we just kept going and we got it here.”
