IT’S BLACK JACK!

By Heath McAlpine

Ahead of this weekend’s first round of the 2017 Dunlop Super2 Series at the Clipsal 500, Image Racing/Dragon Motorsport have unveiled the matte black livery of car #4 that Jack Perkins will drive for the team.

This will be Perkins first crack at the development series since 2013 and he will drive one of two ex-GRM Holden Commodores that were acquired by Image Racing late last year.

The car was raced last season by James Golding who had two race wins in the car in 2016. Perkins will be reunited with the car, as he co drove it with Scott McLaughlin in the 2013 enduro races.

It has been nine months in the making for Wyhoon and Klein, who are both confident they have the right ingredients for success.

“This is Dragon’s fourth year being involved in Supercars. 2017 seems to be the year when everything is coming together for us. We have two very competitive cars built by GRM, a lead driver who has significant experience and success in Supercars in Jack Perkins, and the Image Racing team that brings over 10 years experience in Supercars,” Klein said.

“When our teams started to plan for the 2017 campaign we were both committed to putting together the right team, securing the best technical support and signing the best drivers,” Wyhoon said. “We are 100% on track for the opening Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide and looking forward to the entire season.

The team tested at Winton last week ahead of the first race and Jack was upbeat about the 2017 season.“I’m really looking forward to this year, the car looks great and I must thank Dragon Motor Racing and Image Racing for all of their efforts getting us on the grid.”

“We are only a very small team, but we have some really experienced people in the garage and we are going to give it a good crack this year.”

“The test day at Winton was very good for us, it’s given us confidence heading to Adelaide, but we will need to be on top of our game as whole team to get the results we are aspiring for.”

“The guys in these cars last year showed they are competitive but there are some quality cars, drivers and teams on the grid this year so I’m not going to make any bold predictions, but I think we will be reasonably competitive and I’m pumped to get back in the car Thursday for Practice.”

“We also enjoy great support from Walkinshaw Racing and also Garry Rogers Motorsport, so all of the ingredients are there.”

The Dragon Motorsport car will be in a dramatic matte black colour scheme and will carry support from CAT Workwear, PPG Paint, and Walkinshaw Racing.“When our teams started to plan for the 2017 campaign we were both committed to putting together the right team, securing the best technical support and signing the best drivers,” Wyhoon said. “We are 100% on track for the opening Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide and looking forward to the entire season.”

Image Racing and Dragon Motorsport will also run a car with Renee Gracie at the wheel.
